Matt saw this view of the 3 famous peaks of the Alaska Range on his way home from work one night earlier this month. This was taken about 11 pm at night. The three peaks are the three tallest peaks in the Alaska Range with Mt. McKinley being the tallest peak in North America.
The peaks (from left to right) are Mt. Foraker, Mt. Hunter, and Mt McKinley. These are the names given to the peaks by explorers. Native Alaskans do not name mountains. There are exceptions of course, the big one being the above peaks. The Athabaskans have named the three peaks shown above. Mt McKinley is known as Denali or "The Great One." Mt. Hunter is Begguya or "Denali's Child." Mt. Foraker was given two names. Menlale meaning "Denali's wife" and Sultana meaning "The Woman." Denali and Menlale are on either side of "their child," Begguya.
Not only have we been blessed with views of the mountains, but a moose has been frequenting our neighborhood. He has been hanging out at the local watering hole.
