Winter Fun

We are fully embracing winter now with the little bit of snow that we have! The warm up left us a little bare of the white stuff. There is enough of the snow to take the sled to the mailbox, ski down the driveway, and take skiing lessons.

Stephen has been enjoying winter sports. We started with ice skating. Stephen is taking lessons with Sierra and Sedona Ellemberger. We go every Saturday for 30 minutes.  Miss Jennifer is his teacher.  It is amazing the progress made at each lesson. He is now able to get up all by himself and walk across the ice for a little ways without falling over. Matt keeps telling him he is getting ready for hockey.

Learning how to get up
"I think I can."

"I am almost there."

"Mommy, look at me!"

Next, we decided to get Stephen onto skis this year. We weren't sure how he was going to do at this age, but figured it was worth a try. We tried out the driveway to get him used to being on skis and show Grandma how well he did. It was a fight at first to get him into the boots, then onto the skis. When he realized that Grandma and Miss Linda (our neighbor) were watching, it was easy. An audience is great for him. That went well:
Night skiing with dad and mom!
So, we decided to enroll him in a ski lesson. Mister Grant was his teacher. The man had great patience with Stephen and played to his strengths. Stephen did well. He is able to get up on the skis and "pizza wedge" it down the hill with help. All in all it was a success and Stephen said he would like to go again!

Eleanor and I enjoyed a cup of hot chocolate while we waited for Stephen to finish skiing.  It was a warm enough day that Eleanor enjoyed walking on the snow.  It was so much fun watching her!
