The Hotel Del

Matt and I got our first time away since before Stephen was born! How wonderful, nerve racking, sad, and happy. We planned to go to a conference together in San Diego. Matt's parents offered to take care of the kids while we learned and had some free time. After a day at Sea World, we checked into the world famous Hotel del Coronado. It is one of the largest all wooden structures in the US.

Matt, his parents, the kids, and I went to a mexican restaurant for dinner. We were savouring being with our children and parents. Also, relishing the fact that it would soon be the two of us! On the way back to the hotel, grandpa was carrying Stephen. All of a sudden, Stephen looked at grandpa and "spit out" (PUKED!) all over him. Matt thought it was funny in retrospect because it wasn't all over him. (Note, he has yet to be truly puked on by either one of our children.) Stephen threw up again prior to grandma and grandpa taking him home. It was the guiltiest I have ever felt as a parent - leaving my sick child with my in-laws. (They are greatest!) Poor everyone! Stephen felt better the next day thankfully. It was a case of too much excitement, hot weather, not enough water, and too many chips!

Matt and I enjoyed the Pediatric Emergency Medicine conference. Most of all, we enjoyed walks on the beach. Quiet peaceful dinners out without children. We also enjoyed sleeping in and not being woken in the middle of the night. It was so much fun to just be together and enjoy ourselves. I truly treasure the alone times we have. Which has been few and far between recently.

(Disclaimer: We did not make this! There were some sand artisits working one day!)

We were also blessed to be able to spend some time with some Wolf family friends. The Wolf's and Neal's lived together in the Phillipines serving with Wycliffe Bible Translators in the late 1980's. We got together with Jack and Illys Neal and one of their son's Mike for dinner. It was fun to be able for me to meet them.

The time alone was fabulous and just the right amount of time for our first time away from the kids. Stephen, Eleanor, grandma, and nana came to pick us up. We then went back to Matt's house for some time with family.
